About

Marcus Bastel
Photographer | Fine Art & Documentary Photography

I am a London-based German photographer, I’ve studied Fine Art at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and Sheffield Hallam University. Over the past 20 years, I have developed a distinctive style that bridges the worlds of fine art and documentary photography, capturing compelling stories through landscapes, cityscapes, and portraits.

I document, observe and build community by engaging with people around me, people who occupy the spaces I occupy or travel through. Stories have been important to me since I was a small boy burying my head inside books to dream of adventures and find out about foreign lands.

Notable projects include an ‘It’s a Bad Day piss off’ and ongoing documentary project of a seventh-generation family business of funeral directorsMy Trip to Mars and Faces of Mustang, both shot during my travels across North America.
Recent work included Pictures from the Commute, documenting every day London and its people, Meet the Residents about the inhabitants of an iconic East London tower block and an urban street photography collaboration for an architecture column.

I am represented by Millennium Images and Plainpictures, and regularly share my work on instagram: @marcusbastelphoto

I rarely leave the house without a camera which shows in the images I make.

I am available for editorial photography, portraits, and travel assignments, and am always open to discussing new projects. If you’d like to connect or inquire about commissions or print sales, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
